When Our Mobile Home Caught Fire
When Our Mobile Home Caught Fire
I do reflect on kinder days
The way we, as children, used to play
I’ve kept the records that we saved
When our mobile home caught fire
It’s funny how the years go by
How our ages seem like lies
Especially since we should have died
When the mobile home caught fire
There are so many things I don’t recall
The sounds of laughter down the hall
And how, exactly, did you fall?
When our mobile home caught fire
It’s so nice to find you doing well
I know that I must look like hell
I am haunted by that burning smell
From when the mobile home caught fire
It is fair to say that I miss you
But there was nothing left that I could do
So, I left in search of something new
After our mobile home caught fire
Though, there was no comfort I could find
No drug or drink could calm the mind
So, I’ve wandered aimless, barefoot and blind
Since the mobile home caught fire
And after we sifted through the ashes
And after we cried together all that night
And after we buried mom and dad and the dog
I guess that I, kinda, just sort of, gave up
But I sure hope to see you again
Please know that I am still your friend
Or come with me and we’ll pretend
Our mobile home never caught fire
