For Willow
For Willow
I whispered to the weeping willow
No longer shall you mourn for me
With such words came frosty chill
Oh, how I hoped she’d set me free
We bathed in sunset on the lakeside
While she wept as willows do
But I was filled in part with gladness
As I had given her life a new
A sparrow will perch on many branches
For that is why the sparrow flies
A willow weeps to keep the sparrow
And will mourn him long after he dies
When her dead petals dress the water
There will be no sound of sparrow’s call
But willow’s will will never falter
Content to cry straight through the fall
